What is a 3D image ?

What is a 3D image ?

What is a 3D image?

We are a visual communication agency, so we work with everything visual. Communicating through images can mean different things, which is why it can be difficult for us to explain exactly what we are doing. Essentially, instead of calling ourselves a VR agency, production company, AR agency, CGI company, digital agency, or full-service agency, we’ve boiled it down to the name of our company: Creative Visual Studio.

But what is a 3D image? Does it have anything to do with 3D glasses, the ones you wear in the cinema to watch 3D movies? Or does it have something to do with drawing a small cube on paper so it looks like a cube rather than four continuous lines?

When we talk about 3D images, we’re talking about something else – no glasses needed. But it’s quite a complex process and it’s not easy to explain – so I decided to ask seven different people in the office what their response is when someone asks them what a 3D image is. So here it is, how would we explain a 3D image:

Although it looks like a photograph, this image is made in 3D and everything is generated on a computer. So the final 3D image and a photograph look very similar, the difference is that a photograph is from the physical world and a 3D image is from the digital world. This brings some advantages that we will touch on later.

If you associate 3D with animated movies or video games, this image may look very different from what you expect from 3D. But it is based on the same idea.

The biggest difference lies in how we work with 3D and the style we go for. Where animated films go for a more cartoony look, we go for photorealism so our images can be mistaken for photographs. This allows us to provide our customers with the most dreamy images of their products without the limitations of the physical world. More on that later.

But how do you go from a 3D model to a photorealistic image? Well, this is where it gets tricky. We have a blog post dedicated to the different steps of how to make a 3D image.

Why do you use 3D images?

There are so many reasons, some of them are all the flexibility you want (we can construct anything you dream of), and the ability to reuse images for different purposes (Some movies, configurators, etc.), which brings us to the main reason: namely that 3D images can save you a lot of money if you base your material on the same images – once they’re constructed, they’re easy to reuse and you don’t have to pay to construct the scene again.

Who uses 3D images?

Many different companies do it, but most of our customers work in these industries: Property development, Real Estate Agencies, Architectural Studios, home renovation, and private clients,. Our Design brand works very well with buildings under construction.

Some benefit from the ability to display their product anywhere, from any angle, some benefit from the flexibility, some benefit from the dreamy places we can create without the constraints of the physical world (it rains a lot in Sweden!) and some benefit from the amazing quality that makes the images look even better than the real world.

Remodel your home with 3D images

There are many advantages to using 3D. Just as we can illustrate places and things that aren’t physically there, some of our 3D artists use their skills in their personal lives. One of those times is when they move and need to furnish their new homes.

When the rest of us are trying to imagine what will look good in which location, our 3D graphic designers have the ability to build their home in 3D and decorate it digitally before doing it in the physical world. This way, they will know what colour to paint their walls, where to hang their pictures, what type of sofa would fit best, which dining table best suits the room, and so on.
